In this activity, the students will learn about Alma Thomas, an African-American artist, who began her career as a teacher of art. She expressed her creativity through her art, a mosaic being one method. In honor of her contributions in the field of art, the students will create their own mosaic art using paints and sponges.

Objectives
The students should be able to create a mosaic art piece using different paint colors dabbed on a sponge.
